Challenges

What are design challenges?

The idea behind the challenges is to help focus our creative community and inspire them to work on a particular topic. We'll post a new challenge topic on the Creative Collective site approximately every month.

How do the design challenges work?

To participate in a design challenge, simply upload your artwork and check the submission box in the process. If you've already uploaded the work you want to submit or forgot to check the submit box while uploading, you can also enter by clicking the Edit This Design button on the design detail page. You must be a registered member of the Creative Collective to enter or vote in a challenge.

How are the winners selected?

Designs entered in the challenge are featured in a special gallery (in order of submission, with the most recent ones displayed first) so the community can browse the submissions and vote on their favorites. Designs that have been entered in a challenge will have a special Vote button displayed on their design detail page. You can enter more than one design in a challenge (creativity has no limits, after all!), and voting on multiple designs is also allowed.

The voting period begins as soon as the challenge opens for submissions, and continues for one week after the submission phase has ended to make sure all entries have an opportunity for consideration. Depending on the details of the particular challenge, either the design with the most community votes at the end of the voting period will be named the winner or Mozilla will select the winner based on the five top vote-getters. Winners will be featured on the Creative Collective homepage (the winner will also receive a Champion of the Collective badge for their profile, and the 4 runners up will receive a Minister of Design badge).

What does all this mean for Mozilla?

Mozilla is a non-profit, community-based organization that has always relied on contributions from our worldwide community to help with everything from development to localization to marketing (and much more). These challenges are our way of engaging our visual design community to help advance our mission of keeping the Web open and free. Each design has the potential to really make a difference, and we're very excited about the possibilities!
